Why Ameda
Ameda was founded in 1942 by Swedish engineer Einar Egnell, and the same clinical thinking that goes into our hospital-grade pumps carries through to the ones mums take home. Ameda is WHO Code compliant and supports the International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes.
The HygieniKit closed system
The Mya Joy PLUS comes with our Dual HygieniKit Milk Collection System, a closed-system design in which a patented silicone diaphragm separates your milk from the pump tubing, so the tubing stays dry. That means no cleaning or replacing the tubing, and no trapped moisture where mould can grow.
In laboratory testing adapted from ASTM 1671-97b, no penetration of the diaphragm was detected in either direction when challenged with Phi-X174 bacteriophage and a mixed bacterial suspension.
Already have an Ameda HygieniKit from hospital? The CustomFit flanges, containers, lids and tubing from your hospital kit will work with the Mya Joy PLUS. The diaphragms and valves are slightly different, so use the ones supplied with your pump. Two new sets are included.
Getting the right fit
A good flange fit matters. It can make expressing more comfortable and help you express more milk. The Mya Joy PLUS ships with two flange sizes (25mm and 28.5mm) from our CustomFit Flange System, and further sizes are available separately if neither is quite right. Research has found that nearly one third of mums who express report greater comfort and more milk with a larger-than-standard flange size.

The Ameda HygieniKit has a patented silicone diaphragm that creates a barrier protecting the pump and tubing from penetration by bacteria and viruses. This barrier does not remove bacteria or viruses from breast milk already collected in the collection bottle system, and the HygieniKit does not make it safe for infected mothers to feed their infants with milk collected using this device. Use of this product neither guarantees nor warrants against the transmission of Hepatitis B and C or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Testing performed in situ using actual HygieniKits and an Ameda Piston Breast Pump; procedure adapted from ASTM 1671-97b.
