Find your flange size

The right flange size makes expressing more comfortable and can help you express more milk. A flange that is too small rubs the nipple; one that is too large draws in too much areola.

How to measure

  1. Measure across the base of your nipple in millimetres. Do not include the areola.
  2. Measure before you express, not after.
  3. Choose a tunnel 2 to 3mm wider than your measurement. If you are between sizes, start with the larger one.

Fit can change over the first few weeks, so it is worth measuring again.

Our range

Ameda flanges and inserts run from 11mm to 36mm. Soft flange inserts come in 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21mm and sit inside a 25mm standard flange or a 24mm GLO flange. The CustomFit system covers 22.5, 25, 28.5, 30.5, 32.5 and 36mm. The Ameda GLO uses its own 24mm and 27mm flanges; soft inserts do not fit the 27mm GLO flange.

Download the printable Ameda flange sizing guide (PDF). Print it at 100% scale, not “fit to page”, or the measurements will be wrong.

This is a guide, not a fitting. If expressing hurts, stop and speak to a midwife or lactation consultant. Not sure which size to order? Call our Australian team on 1300 643 633.
