They never contact milk. The closed system keeps them dry.

Reprocessing after every use

  1. Take the system apart

    Separate the breast flange, diaphragm, valve, locking ring cap and bottle.

  2. Rinse, wash, rinse

    Rinse milk residue with cool water. Wash in warm soapy water with a neutral detergent. Rinse well with warm, clean water. Do not insert anything into the valve.

  3. Inspect before and after

    Check for cracks, chips, tears or deterioration. If any are found, do not use. Discard the part.

  4. Dry completely

    Air dry. No water may remain in any part before autoclaving.

  5. Autoclave to your validated cycle

    Breast flange, diaphragm, valve, locking ring cap and bottle only.

    Withstands up to 132°C for 4 minutes pre-vacuum, for multiple cycles

Full ward guidance

Intended use

The Ameda Milk Collection System is intended to facilitate the expression and collection of breast milk from a lactating woman, for the purpose of feeding the collected milk to a child.

It is compatible only with Ameda electric breast pumps.

Before you begin

Always wash hands well with soap and water before handling the Ameda Milk Collection System.

Before and after every use, check the parts for cracks, chips, colour changes or wear, as these can affect how the system functions. If parts need replacing due to defects during a hospital stay, please contact us on 1300 643 633.

Before every use

Your kit is marked sterile. You may open and use it immediately, unless the package has been opened or damaged. Do not use if the package is damaged.

Setting up

Refer to the diagram on the kit's front cover for assembly. Ensure that one side of the tubing adapter is closed for single pumping.

Once the kit is fully assembled, insert the tubing adapter into the receptacle of an Ameda electric breast pump.

To begin pumping:

  • Centre the nipple in the breast flange.
  • Fill the breast flange with the breast to create an air seal.

Reassembly after every use

Once parts are cleaned and dry, refer to the diagram on the kit's front cover for assembly ahead of the next use.

Cleaning and autoclave reprocessing

If your hospital protocol requires autoclaving to prepare the product for use, autoclave the parts (breast flange, diaphragm, valve, locking ring cap, bottle) at your facility's validated cycle.

Validated autoclave conditions:

  • Pre-vacuum, 132°C for 4 minutes
  • Gravity displacement, 132°C for 10 minutes
